No one ever truly prepares you for the love you experience when you share your life with animals. The human–animal bond is a phenomenon still being studied, with proven health benefits for people — but for me, it’s always been something much deeper. I’ve always marveled at the connection we share, especially with dogs, where understanding flows in silence. These “soul-dogs” seem to know exactly what we need, exactly when we need it.

Animals shaped who I am, and I am humbled with gratitude to have turned that soul-deep love into a lifelong career. My path began at age 19 as a veterinary technician, where I discovered a relentless drive to learn more. I graduated with my Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in 2014 and built my foundation in small animal general practice before following my passion into emergency medicine and urgent care. These years taught me resilience, precision, and compassion in the most critical moments.

Over time, I found myself drawn toward a more integrative approach — one that blended modern medicine with holistic therapies. I became certified in veterinary acupuncture and rehabilitation/physical medicine, expanding my toolkit to include acupuncture, laser therapy, TENS/NMES, underwater treadmill therapy, therapeutic exercise, gua sha/therapeutic massage, and food therapy. These modalities allow me to support patients not only in moments of crisis, but also in recovery, chronic care, and quality of life.

In 2024, I relocated to the Oregon Coast, where I balance my professional life with personal passions — particularly SCUBA diving, conservation, and marine/aquatic veterinary medicine. Alongside my clinical work, I continue to mentor veterinary students, advocate for work–life balance, and practice medicine in a way that sustains both patients and practitioners.

At home, I share life with my partner, my two wonderful step-children, and our adventure dog who never says no to a long hike or beach run. Outside of veterinary medicine, you’ll often find me with a cup of strong coffee and a good book, walking along the Oregon Coast, doing Pilates, or taking campervan trips with my family. These are the rhythms that keep me grounded, inspired, and grateful.

Most of all, I want to take the “white coat” fear out of veterinary medicine. I am human, approachable, and here to walk alongside you in searching for answers and solutions for your pet. Whether it’s providing clarity in an urgent moment or helping you manage a chronic condition, my goal is to make veterinary medicine feel less intimidating and more collaborative. Finances are often one of the greatest barriers to care that I encounter in my line of work, and I encourage families to strongly consider pet insurance as a way to reduce that stress and keep the focus where it belongs: helping their pets live healthier, happier lives.

Through every stage of my journey, one truth has remained constant: I believe animals are more than patients. They are partners, teachers, and soul-companions. My mission is to honor them with medicine that is both scientifically grounded and compassionately delivered, empowering pets and their people to thrive together.

With gratitude,
Laura
